Image Description

When cystitis is caused by urea-splitting gram negative bacteria, it leads to alkalinization of the urine and deposition of calcium salts on the injured urothelial mucosa - a condition referred to as encrusted cystitis. The image shows purplish calcium salts and chronic inflammatory infiltrate in the lamina propria.
