Image Description

When cystitis is caused by urea-splitting gram negative bacteria, it leads to alkalinization of the urine and deposition of calcium salts on the injured urothelial mucosa - a condition referred to as encrusted cystitis. The urothelial lining is denuded from the surface in this image. Purplish deposits of calcium salts can be seen.
