Image Description

Acquired (Secondary) Bladder Diverticula: They usually occur in adults > 60 years in the setting of bladder outlet obstruction or neurogenic bladder. They are often located near vesico-ureteral junction. Acquired diverticula are much more common in males, often multiple, and show significant bladder trabeculation on cystoscopy. Associated conditions include benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostate neoplasms, bladder neck obstruction, and urethral stricture. About 70% of acquired diverticula in adult males are associated with BPH which causes urinary outflow obstruction and increases hydrostatic pressure. (Close-up of the previous photograph)
