Image Description

Congenital Bladder Diverticula: They make up about 10% of all diverticula and are generally seen in children < 10 yrs. old with a male predominance. They result from congenital weakness or deficiency in the Detrusor muscle, usually at the level of vesicoureteral junction. Congenital bladder diverticula can be seen in many syndromic conditions, including Menkes syndrome (kinky hair or copper deficiency syndrome), Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Williams syndrome, prune-belly syndrome, and fetal alcohol syndrome.

The image shows section through a diverticular wall. Note the absence of organized muscularis propria. A few scattered smooth muscle bundles are present.
