Image Description
Gross Pathology: Mesoblastic nephroma appears as a single, large, solid, well-circumscribed, unencapsulated mass centered on the hilum of the kidney. The classic variant has a firm, bulging, yellow-tan to gray cut surface with a whorled or trabeculated appearance (shown here) resembling uterine leiomyomas. It lacks areas of hemorrhage or necrosis. The cellular variant (next image) is softer with a glistening, mucoid surface that lacks trabeculations. It frequently shows foci of cystic change, hemorrhage and necrosis.
