Image Description

Adenosquamous Carcinoma of Gallbladder: The image shows irregular, anastomosing nests and clusters of well-differentiated squamous epithelium. Many of the nests had lumen and an inner lining of glandular epithelium.

Pure squamous cell carcinomas of gallbladder are usually associated with gallstones. The mucosa adjacent to the main mass often shows squamous cell carcinoma-in-situ and squamous metaplasia. These changes impart a greyish-white, scaly appearance to the mucosa (see image 12).
