Myolipoma : Microscopic Features
Image Description
Microscopic Features: Myolipoma consists of an intimate admixture of mature adipocytes and bundles or sheet-like areas of smooth muscle in variable proportions. Both components lack cytologic atypia.
The adipose tissue lacks any features suggestive of atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma. There are no lipoblasts or floret-like giant cells. The smooth muscle component consists of short intersecting bundles of bland smooth muscle cells with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm, cigar-shaped nuclei without atypia, and perinuclear vacuoles. Mitotic activity is not increased and there is no coagulative necrosis.
