Myolipoma : Gross Pathology
Image Description
Gross Pathology of Myolipomas: Deep-seated tumors are solitary, large (median size 10.5 cm), well-circumscribed and encapsulated masses. The cut surface is nodular or lobulated and shows yellow adipose tissue admixed with grey-white bands. Tumors with a significant smooth muscle component have nodules with a whorled appearance within fat.
This image of a myolipoma shows smooth muscle bundles interdigitating with adipocytes. Both components lack cytologic atypia.
