Dedifferentiated Liposarcoma : Microscopic Features
Image Description
Microscopic Features (continued): About 5-10% of dedifferentiated liposarcomas (DLPS) show heterologous elements, consisting of rhabdomyosarcoma (shown here), leiomyosarcoma, osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, or angiosarcoma. Rare cases contain plump spindle cells in a whorling pattern (resembling meningioma or perineurioma), often associated with metaplastic bone formation. Another rare pattern is the presence of large, epithelioid cells mimicking carcinoma or melanoma.
The rhabdomyoblasts seen in this case of DLPS were positive for muscle markers (desmin, MyoD1, myogenin).
