Image Description

Microscopic Features (continued): About 5-10% of dedifferentiated liposarcomas (DLPS) show heterologous elements, consisting of rhabdomyosarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, osteosarcoma (shown here), chondrosarcoma, or angiosarcoma. Rare cases contain plump spindle cells in a whorling pattern (resembling meningioma or perineurioma), often associated with metaplastic bone formation. Another rare pattern is the presence of large, epithelioid cells mimicking carcinoma or melanoma.
