Calcifying Aponeurotic Fibroma : Microscopic

Microscopic Features: Calcifying aponeurotic fibroma consists of nodular calcified areas centrally and a fibromatosis-like component peripherally that widely infiltrates subcutaneous tissues, fat, and skeletal muscles. The fibrous component may be attached to tendons and aponeurosis and may surround blood vessels and nerves. Early lesions (especially in infants and small children) often consist predominantly of non-calcified, fibromatosis-like areas which eventually evolve into a less cellular and more heavily calcified mass.
