Anastomosing islands composed of tumor cells that are somewhat monomorphic, small to intermediate sized, round or polygonal, with small hyperchromatic nuclei and scant cytoplasm. Brisk mitotic activity and foci of necrosis are frequently found. The stroma consists of abundant fibrous tissue with scattered fibroblasts and myofibroblasts.
