Coccidioidomycosis : Spleen
Image Description
Coccidioidomycosis in Spleen: Coccidioidomycosis primarily involves the lungs but may spread to the spleen and other organs in immunocompromised patients (especially HIV+/AIDS). In full-blown infection, spleen shows necrotizing and non-necrotizing granulomas and microabscesses. The background contains lymphoid aggregates, neutrophils and eosinophils. The diagnostic hallmark is detection of developing (immature) and mature spherules as well as released endospores.
