Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma : Pathogenesis

Pathogenesis of Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma (POF): POF is not a true neoplasm but a reactive lesion of uncertain pathogenesis. It is clinically and morphologically similar to pyogenic granuloma. Some POFs may arise by fibrous maturation and calcification/ossification in pyogenic granulomas. Others likely have a different pathogenesis. The osteoid matrix is believed to originate from the cells lining the periosteum or from periodontal ligament.
