Myxoid Leiomyosarcoma of Uterus

Myxoid leiomyosarcoma can appear cytologically monotonous with absence of severe cytologic atypia or increased mitotic activity as depicted in the photomicrograph. The diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma is based on its infiltrative borders. Normal smooth muscle bundles have been tangentially cut and have been entrapped by malignant smooth muscle cells. Note the myxoid background.
