Myxoid Leiomyosarcoma of Uterus
Image Description
Myxoid leiomyosarcoma may be grossly gelatinous. The photomicrograph above displays scattered smooth muscle cells within a predominantly myxoid stroma. Low mitotic rate and absence of severe cytologic atypia (unlike the case shown here) are distinguishing features of myxoid leiomyosarcoma. The major differential diagnosis is with leiomyoma with hydropic degeneration.
