Image Description

This high power view of the previous image shows nests of round to polygonal smooth muscle cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm. Nucleus is typically central and round with variable degree of pleomorphism. Mitotic figures are rare, usually up to 2 MF/10 HPF. Sometimes cytoplasm can be clear due to glycogen content, numerous mitochondria or cytoplasmic vacuoles. The latter is referred to as clear cell leiomyoma, still a variant of epithelioid leiomyoma.
