Image Description

Hydrosalpinx refers to massive distension of the fallopian tube caused by fluid accumulation. It results from occlusion of the distal end of the tube, usually by chronic infection. The tube initially thickens from inflammation and fibrosis.

Fluid accumulates within the tube causing it to distend. With rising pressure, the muscular coat gradually withers away and the entire tube expands into a retort-shaped bag of fluid.
