Adult Granulosa Cell Tumor : Immunostains - SMA
Image Description
Immunohistochemical Profile of Adult Granulosa Cell Tumor (GCT) of the Ovary: Adult GCTs are positive for FOXL2 (most important marker; nuclear), calretinin, vimentin, estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors, and SF-1 (nuclear).
The immunoreactivity for inhibin is variable, ranging from strong to weak to absent (20% of cases). Low molecular weight cytokeratins CK8 and CK18 are positive in a dot-like fashion in 30% to 50% of cases. S-100 protein is positive in 50% of cases. CD99 (70% of cases; membrane), CD56 and WT1 (nuclear) are also positive. There may also be positivity for SMA, desmin, and CD10.
Negative markers include EMA, PAX8, and CK7. Image courtesy of: Jian-Hua Qiao, MD, FCAP, Los Angeles, CA, USA.
