Image Description

Architectural Patterns: Adult granulosa cell tumor is composed of granulosa cells arranged in a variety of patterns, admixed with a stromal component of fibroblasts and theca cells. Multiple patterns often coexist within the same tumor (as shown in this low power view) and have no prognostic significance.

The most common architectural pattern is diffuse or solid, but the most characteristic and easily recognized is the microfollicular pattern with Call-Exner bodies (seen in 30-50% of cases). Other patterns include trabecular, macrofollicular, and insular patterns. Less common are gyriform, pseudopapillary, tubular (Sertoli-like), sarcomatoid, and watered-silk patterns (delicate rows and cords of tumor cells).
