Ovary is a frequent recipient of metastatic deposits from other locations. The most common primary sites include stomach, colon, appendix, breast, uterus, lung, and skin (melanoma). The metastases mimic primary ovarian tumors clinically in between 5-10% of cases. Advanced stage colorectal adenocarcinomas frequently spread to the ovaries (as shown in this image). They may simulate the histopathologic features of a variety of primary ovarian tumors (endometrioid, mucinous, clear cell). The metastatic foci tend to be well-differentiated and often show mucin-production, hemorrhage, and necrosis.
