Histology: Bladder diverticula are lined by normal urothelium initially. Over time, chronic inflammation may cause atrophy, squamous metaplasia (shown here), or intestinal metaplasia. Frequently, a large diverticulum is lined in different portions by different epithelia. Images 24-27 are from the same diverticulectomy specimen.
