Introduction: Testicular germ cell tumors (GCTs) can undergo partial or complete regression spontaneously in the absence of any treatment - a phenomenon seen in less than 5% of cases.
Regression can occur in all types, although it is most frequently seen in seminomas. Many pure teratomas with mature elements are in fact mixed germ cell tumors in which the non-teratomatous components regressed. The regressed tumor is replaced by a discrete fibrous nodule or scar. Such cases are also referred to as "burnt-out" germ cell tumors.
