Image Description

Prognosis of Mixed Germ Cell Tumors (GCTs): In clinical stage 1 tumors, the presence of embryonal carcinoma, vascular invasion, and rete testis involvement is associated with higher metastatic potential. On the other hand, the presence of yolk sac tumor and teratoma is linked with lower incidence of metastasis.

Invasion of rete testis or hilar soft tissue correlates with clinical stage II or III disease at presentation. Mixed GCTs with a predominant choriocarcinoma component have a higher clinical stage at presentation and behave aggressively.

This photomicrograph of a mixed GCT shows mature teratoma (hyaline cartilage) on the right and seminoma on the left of the smooth muscle band.
