Basal cell-specific markers such as high molecular weight cytokeratin (HMWCK) and p63 are very helpful in confirming the diagnosis in challenging cases. The basal cell layer is often quite prominent in post-radiation biopsies and shows strong immunoreactivity for HMWCK (shown here).
