Rare cases of sclerosing adenosis may show intraluminal blue mucin within glands further mimicking prostate cancer. However, the dense spindle stroma seen here in between glands is not a feature of prostate cancer. Immunostains can help in difficult cases. Sclerosing adenosis shows strong immunoreactivity for HMWCK due to the presence of basal cells. Prostate cancer lacks basal cell layer. For additional helpful markers, see the next few images.
