Image Description
Macroscopic Features in Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) (continued from the previous image): Over time, the kidneys can become massively enlarged, weighing as much as 3 kg to 4 kg. The outer surface is bosselated by cysts of varying size, ranging from a few millimeters to several centimeters. The cysts are thin-walled, translucent, and filled with clear, serous fluid or proteinaceous, red-brown turbid, or hemorrhagic fluid. Calcific deposits may be present within the cyst. With the increase in the size of the kidney and cyst volumes, there is progressive decline in the renal function.
