Image Description
Hepatic Involvement in Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD): This coronal CT (with contrast) of abdomen and pelvis demonstrates numerous cysts in the liver. Same case as the previous image. The most common extrarenal manifestation in ADPKD is hepatic cysts, seen in 40%-50% of patients. They are derived from the biliary epithelium. They are more common in females and their prevalence and size increases with age. Most cases are asymptomatic, but some may produce symptoms due to hepatic venous outflow obstruction, hemorrhage into cysts, or infection. In rare cases, hepatic cysts can cause portal hypertension and esophageal varices. Case courtesy of Erik Ranschaert, Radiopaedia.org. From the case rID: 11109
