Image Description
Gross Pathology: This is a gross specimen photograph of a congenital mesoblastic nephroma, cellular type, removed from a newborn baby. The cellular variant tends to have a softer consistency with a glistening cut surface punctuated by foci of cystic change, hemorrhage and necrosis. In contrast, the classic variant of congenital mesoblastic nephroma is firmer with a myomatous, whorled or trabeculated cut surface (as seen in the previous image) that lacks hemorrhagic or necrotic areas.
