Renomedullary interstitial cell tumor is a common benign renal neoplasm of no clinical significance. It is usually discovered incidentally at autopsy or in kidneys removed for other reasons. The cell of origin is renomedullary interstitial cell involved in regulation of blood pressure via secretion of several vasoactive agents. Macroscopically, it appears as a small (usually < 0.5 cm), circumscribed, round or oval, gray-white nodule in the medulla. The lesions are multiple in >50% of cases and bilateral in about 50% of cases.
