The mucosa of the gastric fundus (or body) consists of several pits lined by surface mucous cells and, deeper, mucous neck cells. Deeper into the pits, the lining includes parietal cells, neuroendocrine cells, peptic cells, and stem cells. The lamina propria predominantly houses lymphocytes; plasma cells should be rare or absent.
