Metaplasia is common in autoimmune gastritis. Intestinal metaplasia can be seen in the gastric pits, where goblet cells populate large stretches of the mucosa. Additionally, pseudopyloric metaplasia can be seen toward the base of the glands. The surface of the mucosa demonstrates hyperplastic changes.
