Hepatocellular Carcinoma - Solid Pattern in Hepatitis B
Image Description
Solid pattern HCC is relatively uncommon and comprises sheets of tumor cells lacking endothelial cell-wrapped trabeculae or cell plates (as seen here). Compressed trabeculae may be identified using endothelial cell immunomarkers. This tumor comprises sheets of monomorphic tumor cells with uniform nuclei, conspicuous nucleoli, and abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm. Bile staining is prominent and portal tracts are absent, as is characteristic of HCC.
