Image Description

Mixed epithelial-mesenchymal hepatoblastomas contain admixed epithelial and mesenchymal components (such as osteoid or cartilage). The epithelial elements in this tumor show embryonal morphology, with marked basophilia due to high nuclear:cytoplasmic ratios. The mesenchymal component is represented by primitive mesenchyme with osteoid, which is the most commonly seen heterologous element. Chondroid or rhabdomyoblastic foci may also occur.
