Image Description

Treatment of Liver Hemangiomas (continued from the previous image): Surgical intervention is indicated in symptomatic patients (who present with abdominal pain, active bleeding from hemangioma, or Kasabach-Merritt syndrome). The treatment options include formal liver resection and tumor enucleation. Enucleation is preferable since it spares normal liver tissue. Recurrences are rare even with incomplete removal. For the rare giant liver hemangiomas that are unresectable or present with life-threatening complications, hepatectomy with liver transplantation may become necessary. (treatment continues in the next image)
