Collagenous Colitis : Pathogenesis
Image Description
The pathogenesis of collagenous colitis is immune-mediated and it may be related to celiac disease. Exposure to one or more luminal antigens is required. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, proton-pump inhibitors, selective serotonin uptake inhibitors (SSRIs), simvastatin, and lisinopril exposure have been associated with collagenous colitis.
This case of collagenous colitis was related to intake of proton pump inhibitor - lansoprazole for gastroesophageal reflux disease. Image courtesy of: @patholwalker
