Image Description

Microscopic Features of Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors (PanNET): There are no histologic differences between functioning and non-functioning PanNETs. Moreover, the neuroendocrine tumors of gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, and the respiratory tract also share histologic features. Therefore, in a patient with metastatic NET, predicting the site of primary tumor is difficult on histology alone.

Both functioning and non-functioning PanNETs display a variety of architectural patterns, including solid nests, trabecular, gyriform, rosettes, and glandular/ductular patterns. Multiple patterns are frequently seen within a single tumor.

About this image: Well-differentiated non-functioning PanNET showing solid nests of uniform tumor cells separated by vascular stroma.
