Acral Lentiginous Melanoma

Another example of acral lentiginous melanoma removed from the heel of an elderly female. The tumor infiltrated into the subcutaneous fat (Clark Level 5) under a markedly acanthotic epidermis. Surface ulceration was also present (see next image). The invasive component consisted of spindle-shaped melanocytes arranged in dense sheets (next 4 images).
