Image Description

Currently, more than 200 human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes are known. Each viral genotype has a predilection for specific clinical presentation or anatomic site or shows distinct histopathologic changes.

Anogenital warts are caused mainly by HPV-6 and HPV-11. HPV-16 has been implicated in squamous cell carcinoma of anogenital region and cervix and with Bowenoid papulosis.

The non-melanoma skin cancers seen in the setting of inherited condition epidermodysplasia verruciformis are associated with HPV subtypes 5 and 8.

The image shows common wart on the palmar surface of hand near the base of thumb. It is a 1.5 cm raised, firm, flesh-colored lesion with a rough surface.
