Gemistocytic Astrocytoma, WHO Grade II
Image Description
Note the dense eosinophilic cytoplasm and eccentrically displaced nucleus. Gemistocytes are frequently found in other fibrillary astrocytomas and oligodendrogliomas. Some authors require at least 20% of tumor cells to be gemistocytic before using the designation of gemistocytic astrocytoma. This tumor appears to be composed of an almost pure population of gemistocytic cells.
