Lipoblastoma : Additional Images

This example of lipoblastoma is composed of mature-appearing fat cells arranged in multiple lobules. Lipoblastomas may show spontaneous maturation to ordinary lipoma or fibrolipoma when followed over time by multiple biopsies.

Cytogenetically, lipoblastomas show rearrangements of 8q11-13 (involving PLAG1 gene) or polysomy of chromosome 8. Prognosis is excellent. Cases of diffuse lipoblastomatosis may recur if incompletely excised.
