Comments:
Pure cholesterol gallstones (composed entirely of cholesterol; shown here) make up only about 10% of all cholesterol gallstones. The remainder are referred to as mixed stones and contain at least 50% cholesterol admixed with precipitates of amorphous calcium bilirubinate (the main ingredient of pigment stones) and small amounts of calcium carbonate and calcium phosphate.
