Gallstones : Terminology

Gallstones can form anywhere in the biliary tract. Cholecystolithiasis (or simply cholelithiasis or gallstones) refers to stones within the gallbladder. This comprises the vast majority of gallstones. Choledocholithiasis refers to gallstones within the bile ducts, which comprises about 20% of cases.
