Comments:
Cholesterol Gallstones: The center of cholesterol gallstones frequently contains a darker amorphous core of bilirubin, bile salts, mucin glycoproteins, calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, and other minerals (copper, sulfur). These compounds provide the nidus for cholesterol nucleation and crystallization. Note the radiating arrays of cholesterol crystals admixed with darker calcium bilirubinate deposits surrounding the core in this image.
