Treatment of Gallstones: Gallstones sometimes undergo spontaneous dissolution and disappear. Symptomatic patients are treated with laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Surgical approach is also indicated in children, patients with sickle cell disease, those at high risk of developing gallbladder cancer (especially Native Americans), those with porcelain gallbladder, or with stones measuring > 3 cm.
