Prostate Cancer : Mucinous Type

slide 17 of 36

Comments:
When at least 25% of the tumor consists of pools of extracellular mucin, it is classified as mucinous (colloid) adenocarcinoma of the prostate. This diagnosis should not be made in a needle biopsy since it is impossible to examine the entire tumor in such a specimen; however, one should mention the mucinous features in the pathology report.
