Introduction: Allergic fungal sinusitis is a non-invasive collection of inspissated mucus and cellular debris within a sinus cavity. It is an allergic response to the presence of fungal elements. Maxillary and ethmoid sinuses are usually affected but any sinus may be involved. It is more common in children and young adults, especially in the southern and south-eastern regions of the United States. The causative agents include Aspergillus species as well as dematiaceous fungi such as Bipolaris, Exserohilum, Curvularia, Alternaria, and Drechslera.
