Comments:
Treatment of choledochal cyst consists of complete resection, cholecystectomy, and Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy as a preventive measure against the risk of carcinoma. More extensive surgery is required when the cysts involve intrahepatic segments of the bile ducts (type IV or V).

This intraoperative photograph shows choledochocele (type III choledochal cyst) which is dilation of the terminal portion of common bile duct within the duodenal wall. Next image shows the opened cyst. Image courtesy of: Dr. James McClenathan, Dept. of Surgery, University of Arizona College of Medicine, Tucson, AZ; used with permission.
