Intraductal Papillary Neoplasm of Bile Duct : Epidemiology

Epidemiology: The prevalence of intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct (IPNB) shows wide geographic differences. It is more common in the Far East (10% to 38% of all bile duct tumors) than in the Western countries (7% to 12% of all bile duct tumors). The high prevalence in the Far East is due to hepatolithiasis, primary sclerosing cholangitis and liver fluke infections (clonorchiasis & opisthorchiasis) - the major risk factors of IPNB - which are endemic in that region.
