Hydrops & Mucocele : Macroscopic Features

Macroscopic Features: The gallbladder is massively enlarged and may contain as much as 1000 to 1500 ml of clear watery fluid (hydrops) or inspissated mucin (mucocele). The wall is thickened (when associated with chronic cholecystitis and multiple gallstones). In acute childhood cases or when it is caused by the obstruction of cystic duct by a single stone, the wall is usually thin.
